Why Join the Union

All staff members begin as "Fair Share Payers" in the staff union, California State University Employees Union (CSUEU) Chapter 315. CSUEU is the largest staff union in the CSU.

The increase from fees to membership dues is about the same as the cost of a cup of coffee—annually. That’s right, for the cost of one cup of coffee per year you can have a voice and a vote.
Full Membership – Becoming a full member of CSUEU allows you to make decisions regarding your employment and benefits.

Fee Payer – Remaining a fee payer allows the full members to make decisions for you.

What does the union do for us?

The union negotiated all of the rights, protections, and benefits we enjoy. All of these items are guaranteed under our union contract.

  • Seniority and job security
  • Fights back attacks on our benefits and pensions
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • Health and safety provisions
  • Holidays
  • Vacation time
  • Leaves of absences
  • Pensions
  • Hours of work
  • Job classifications
  • Job postings
  • Wages and shift premiums
  • Overtime conditions and rates
  • A process to resolve problems in the workplace

What does The California State University Employees Union (CSUEU) do with your 1%?

Under our union contract we are guaranteed health care benefits.

Unlike most other State of California Employees, our union (CSUEU) has secured a 100/90% benefit formula = The CSU pays 100% of the weighted average of available health plans for employees and 90% for dependents.

Most other California State employees are on an 80/80% benefit formula = The state pays 80% of the weighted average of available health plans for employees and 80% for dependents.

PERS Choice is the mid-level plan offered to us. Currently CSU staff pay $10.70 a month for themselves under this plan, however if we were under the 80/80% formula like other state employees, we would pay $143.00 a month for this plan

Can you afford to pay up to $1,587.60 more for your health care benefits each year?

Will we always have the 100/90 formula?

There is a great motivation for some in the nation and the state to force employees to pay a greater percentage of their benefits costs. Rest assured your union is constantly fighting to maintain the level of benefits we all deserve.

Imagine paying 100% of your current health care premium!

The range of monthly premiums for the plans available to us are:

  • Employee - $552.39 - $930.29
  • Employee +1 - $1,004.78 - $1,860.58
  • Employee +2 or more - $1,436.21 - $2,418.75

It pays to be a union member!

What can you do to protect your benefits?

Paying an additional few cents a month to become a full member of CSUEU is minimal in comparison to paying more for your health benefits.

Becoming a full member of CSUEU will unite your voice with those of your colleagues.  The larger the CSUEU membership is, the stronger our voice is at the bargaining table and in Sacramento.

CSUEU membership will allow you to make decisions regarding your employment and benefits.  Remaining a fair share fee payer allows the full members to make decisions for you.
