• participating in committee work
• serving in leadership capacities

Indirect Benefits through IRA

Because members of the IRA CL/R SIG are also members of IRA, they
• receive a bimonthly newspaper entitled Reading Today,
• they are charged reduced prices when attending the annual convention
(and frequently receive price breaks at various state and regional conferences), and
• they have the opportunity to purchase other excellent IRA publications at reduced prices.

IRA, the parent organization, also publishes six major journals:
The Reading Teacher
(preschool / elementary; 8 issues per year),
The Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy
(8 issues per year),
The Reading Research Quarterly

Lectura y Vida
( Spanish quarterly)
Thinking Classrooms
( Quarterly)
( Russian quarterly)

Intangible Benefits

Members also have the satisfaction of knowing that their dues and subscription fees help support the work of the largest educational nonprofit service organization in the world which is dedicated to improving reading instruction and promoting lifelong literacy (approximately 100,000 members). Members collaborate in numerous projects in various local councils, states/provinces, and national affiliates which collectively provide an amazing array of opportunities for professional growth, networking, and leadership.
