Cal State Long Beach Commencement Ceremonies Set For May 23-26

Summary

LONG BEACH, Calif. (May 18, 2017) – CSULB expects to confer more than 10,000 degrees for the 2016-17 academic year at Commencement 2017 scheduled for May 23-26

LONG BEACH, Calif. (May 18, 2017) – CSULB expects to confer a school-record of more than 10,000 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees for the 2016-17 academic year, and many of those earning degrees are expected to walk across the stage at Commencement 2017, a total of 11 graduation ceremonies at the Long Beach campus scheduled for Tuesday-Friday, May 23-26.

In addition to participating students, upwards of 70,000 family members and friends are expected to visit the university over the four-day period to hear their graduate’s name and watch them walk across the dais.

Held in the campus’ Central Quadrangle, Commencement 2017 begins Tuesday, May 23, with graduates from the College of Engineering being recognized beginning at 9 a.m. The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. and the College of Education at 5 p.m.

On Wednesday, May 24, the College of Liberal Arts will host three ceremonies for its graduates—the first beginning at 9 a.m., followed by the second at 1 p.m. and the third at 5 p.m.

Three more ceremonies are set for Thursday, May 25, when the College of the Health and Human Services will recognize its graduates in ceremonies at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

On the final day, Friday, May 26, graduates from the College of the Arts will take the stage at 9 a.m. followed by a 1 p.m. ceremony for those students earning degrees from the College of Business Administration.

During each of the ceremonies, President Jane Close Conoley will speak as will each of the college’s respective deans. In addition, each college’s distinguished alumni will be recognized.

Because of the large number of graduates at the largest ceremonies—Health and Human Services, Liberal Arts, Arts and Business Administration—every person attending those ceremonies will need a complimentary ticket, including children. The ceremonies will also be available to be viewed at nearby live-streaming rooms, which will not require tickets and are open to everyone. Banners will display designated live-streaming room locations the day of the ceremony. In addition, those unable to attend, but interested in viewing the ceremonies, can do so via a live webstream.

After each ceremony, graduates and guests are invited to attend a one-hour reception hosted by their respective colleges on the terrace level of the University Student Union. Refreshments and music will be provided.

Free parking is available for commencement guests in lots 1, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18 and 20 at the north end of the campus as well as Parking Structures I, II or III. Courtesy shuttles will be available to transport guests to the Central Quad area. Parking Lot 7 will be designated for Accessible Parking (ADA placards). For commencement parking map click here.
