First Intergenerational Reading Day Set

Children from the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Child and Family Center will be treated to the inaugural Intergenerational Reading Day from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, in the University Library Children's Collection room on the library fifth floor.

The event is sponsored by the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences ( FCS ) Gerontology Program, the FCS Child and Family Center, Sigma Phi Omega national gerontology honor society, University Library and CSULB Senior University. Volunteer Dean Ronald Vogel of the Co llege of Health and Human Services will be among volunteer readers and joining children age 2-5 years for an afternoon of story sharing and refreshments. The event may expand to include community children in future years, said Melanie Horn Mallers, professor of gerontology and family and consumer sciences.

Readers of all ages, particularly adults age 50 and above, are welcome and may bring their favorite children's books or choose one from the library collection. To volunteer, contact Mallers at 985-7494 or by Nov. 29.
