Jewels Of The Night Held May 3Published: May 1, 2014
On Saturday, May 3, The Walter Pyramid will hold the 20th annual Jewels of the Night festivities. Hosted by the 49er Athletic Club, the fundraising division within the Long Beach State Athletics Department, this is the marquee event for generating revenue to support the more than 350 university student-athletes in their quest to realize both their academic and athletic ambitions.
The Jewels of the Night committee, headed by Kalim Rayburn and Eric Johnson, has set expectations high. Both huge Long Beach State Athletics supporters, they have compiled a team whose solid foundation is built via representation from the essential areas of Long Beach and its greater community. Drawing from the Long Beach community, a base of strong local alumni, and numerous faculty, staff and coaches, the committee is a diverse group providing valuable knowledge, leadership and experience. With an array of unique auction items up for bid, a wide variety of food from area eateries and enjoyable live entertainment, there is no excuse to miss Jewels of the Night.
Reservations can be made in advance on the Jewels of the Night website. Make sure to purchase ahead of time to avoid elevated prices. On the day of the event, doors will open at 5 p.m. and the festivities will continue until 10:30 p.m.
More than 25 of Long Beach’s most popular restaurants will be on hand to serve some of their famous dishes in an energetic and classy setting, complete with wine tastings and a hosted bar.
Several restaurants scheduled to be in attendance include Parker’s Lighthouse, Spaghettini, Naples Rib Company, Polly’s Gourmet Coffee, The Boathouse, Rossmoor Pastries, Forbidden City, The Attic, La Strada, The Auld Dubliner Irish Pub and Restaurant and Legend’s.
In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase some once-in-a-lifetime items and experiences during the evening. Auction items include meet-and-greets with former Dirtbags and current Major League Baseball stars, and trips to memorable destinations around the world.
Among some of the auction items will be a trip to the men’s basketball 2015 Final Four in Indianapolis; a three-night stay at Trump International hotel in Las Vegas, plus golf for four at Spanish Trails Country Club; four Disneyland Park Hopper passes with a two-night stay at the Anaheim Marriott; a 12-person suite at Anaheim Stadium during the Angel’s 2014 season; a private helicopter tour of Mammoth Mountain and meet and greet with Angel standout Jered Weaver.
Additional prizes available at the event will be a fully stocked wine refrigerator, two JetBlue tickets for any domestic flight, a $500 shopping spree at South Coast Plaza, an iPad Air Wifi, an iPad mini with retinal display 16G Wifi, a 50-inch television and certificates to local eateries and premium wine packages.
