Published: August 21, 2017

CSULB’s 2017 Convocation will be held on Friday, Aug. 25, from 8-10:30 a.m. A reception and continental breakfast will take place in the Dance Courtyard at 8 a.m. The program will begin at 9 a.m. in the Carpenter Performing Arts Center.

Convocation is where university leaders review campus achievements and outline initiatives for the upcoming academic year. President Jane Close Conoley and Provost Brian Jersky will address the campus community. There will also be remarks from Academic Senate Chair Norbert Schürer and Associated Students’ President Joseph Nino.

Also as part of the morning program, School of Art professor Aubry Mintz will introduce a screening of the animated short film titled “Ugat” by Theresa Reyes, a CSULB graduate and intern at Pixar.

CSULB continues to be an attractive option for incoming students. The campus had 103,605 student applications for fall 2017, the highest in university history. Freshman applications totaled 63,035, one of the highest among CSUs, and transfer applications totaled 31,144, 2 percent higher than last year, and one of the highest in the nation.

The projected enrollment for this fall is approximately 37,000, with new freshmen numbering near 4,200 and transfer enrollment of 3,850, similar to last year. Among the new students will be 32 President’s Scholars.

In addition, CSULB has 38 new tenure-track faculty members beginning this fall.
