Campus’ Living Well @ The Beach Event Held Oct. 19-23

CSULB will hold its third annual Living Well @ The Beach event Oct. 19-23 at various locations across the campus in recognition of Health and Safety Week at the university.

Organized by the Division of Administration and Finance and Division of Student Affairs, the week-long slate of activities is focused on raising awareness of the various health, wellness and safety services and information available at the university. Registration for the activities is recommended.

“Living Well @ The Beach is an opportunity for students and employees to learn more about how the campus can help as they look to lead healthier lives and keep themselves safe,” said Nancy Eckhous, assistant vice president for administrative services/chief of staff and co-chair of the event.

Each day of the week has a topic or theme on which the day’s related activities will be focused.

The week will kick off with “Information Day” on Monday, Oct. 19, and will feature an information fair near the Speaker’s Platform area, adjacent to the University Bookstore, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

“Day of Safety” follows on Tuesday, Oct. 20, and will include an active shooter workshop as well as a presentation on sexual assault awareness, a presentation on IT security and an LGBT Safe Zone Ally Program. The day’s events will close with the a Candlelight Vigil from 5-8 p.m. on Maxson Plaza.

The focus on Wednesday, Oct. 21, is “Day of Wellness,” which will include the Farmers’ Market, Project Chill, yoga, food trucks and more in and around Friendship Walk from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Additionally, the Clothesline Project, a domestic violence awareness exhibit, will be on display from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The day will conclude with “Take Back the Night,” a discussion and march focused on eliminating sexual and domestic violence in all forms.

The “Day of Health” on Thursday, Oct. 22, will feature “Move for a Mile,” a fun walk through the campus from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. that will begin at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center and end at the Student Health Services (SHS) Building with prizes and free gifts. There also will be stress and smoking cessation workshops offered through SHS from 12:30-1 p.m.

The week’s activities conclude with “Work/Life Balance Day” on Friday, Oct. 23, with all events taking place in the Anatol Center. There will be a “Strategies for Healthy Living” presentation from 11 to 11:45 a.m., a workshop on resolving conflict from noon to 12:45 p.m. and a “Handling Holiday Stress” workshop from 1 to 1:45 p.m.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a student, a faculty member or a staff member, Living Well @ The Beach has something for just about everyone,” noted Mishelle Laws, assistant vice president for administration and finance and co-chair of the event. “Almost all of us can do more to be healthier and safer, and the fact that all of these activities and information are available at your school or work place makes it that much easier and more convenient.”
