Special Olympics Volunteers Needed

This summer Los Angeles will be hosting the Special Olympics World Games LA2015. There will be more than 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches representing 177 countries in competitions that will take place July 25-Aug. 2. In addition, it’s anticipated that 500,000 spectators will witness the activities at various Southern California venues.

This will be largest sports and humanitarian event anywhere in the world in 2015, and the single biggest event in Los Angeles since the 1984 Olympic Games. In addition, Long Beach will be hosting six sporting events which include beach volleyball, half marathon, open water swimming, triathlon, sailing, and kayaking.

The City of Long Beach will host more than 120 Special Olympics’ athletes and their coaches from China, with a Host Town program will being held July 21-24. Over a three-day period, athletes will be welcomed and celebrated throughout Long Beach.

The schedule of events will include getting to know community members, taking part in cultural activities unique to our city, as well as preparing for the competiton.

Now less than a month away, Long Beach Host Town is looking for volunteers from organizations and/or individuals who would like to be an integral part of this inspirational and unforgettable time for these individuals.
