Lesley Farmer, Advanced Studies in Education and Counseling, was honored with the Anne Gallerr Award for Professional Excellence by the Education Division of the Special Library Association. The purpose of the award is to recognize an individual DEDU member who has demonstrated professional excellence in the field of education librarianship or library education and/or has provided outstanding service to the education division over a period of years.

Stan Finney, Geological Sciences, was awarded a grant of $50,000 from the National Science Foundation to support a joint International Commission on Stratigraphy – National Science Foundation Workshop titled “Archiving the Stratigraphic Record.” The workshop will be held in Graz, Austria, July 24-25 and will bring together a diverse group of 40 specialists in stratigraphy from the United States, China, Italy, Spain, France, Austria and the United Kingdom. The goal of the workshop is to develop a plan to initiate a multi-decade project to place stratigraphic information from localities worldwide into a readily accessible digital database. In addition, in his role as chair of the International Commission on Stratigraphy, Finney was interviewed for an article titled “Why the rush to declare the Anthropocene?” published the week of May 1 in Aeon Magazine. Also, Finney was interviewed for a Morning Edition news article presented on National Public Radio on April 6. The title of the news article is “When Did Humans Start Shaping Earth’s Fate? An Epoch Debate.”

Terry Witkowski, Marketing, presented “Winchester: The Making of a Heritage Brand and Its Consumer Communities” at the 4th International Consumer Brand Relationships Conference at the Porto Business School in Portugal, May 21-23. He also presented “A History of Consumption in the United States” at the 17th Conference on Historical Analysis and Research in Marketing, RMS Queen Mary, May 28-31. Witkowski was local arrangements chair for the second conference.
