39th Year For Concerts in the Grove, Last At Soroptimist House

Published: July 1, 2015

Concerts in the Grove will celebrate its 39th season and its final one at the campus’ Soroptimist House. It is a great way to share an evening outdoors with your family, friends and business associates. Don’t miss out on seeing your favorite bands perform one last time at the historic venue and stay tuned for a new campus concert series scheduled to debut in summer 2016.

Pack a picnic dinner to enjoy before the concert, then listen and dance to lively bands under the stars.

A popular Concerts in the Grove tradition is the raffle drawing of donated gifts from local merchants. Proceeds from this drawing benefit various alumni programs such as the Alumni Grants Program which provides campus grants and supports student excellence. Just a few of the past prizes have included accommodations at fine hotels, gift certificates to acclaimed restaurants, wine tastings and tickets to theatre events.

Scheduled to perform at the four summer concerts are:

July 11 – Elm Street Band
Opening the 2015 season is fan favorite Elm Street Band. These four classic rockers have jammed together in various combinations for almost 40 years. The Long Beach Press-Telegram calls them “the soundtrack for the City of Long Beach.” The highly acclaimed oldies band performs hits from the Beach Boys, Eagles, Beatles and Neil Young. You’ll recognize and sing along to songs like “Kokomo,” “Harvest Moon” and “Twist and Shout.”

July 25 – Tommy Tassi and the Authentics
Tommy Tassi is the voice of Concerts in the Grove and will be back to perform for the 19th time. Tommy Tassi and the Authentics is a highly renowned 50s-60s cover band that has been entertaining and pleasing audiences for more than 35 years with its riveting spirit and energy. Lead vocalist Tommy Tassi, who has an uncanny ability to sound like many of the legendary artists he covers, has guided the band to its popularity and success.

No style of music enjoys wider appeal. Hit songs by Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, The Temptations, James Brown and many others are sure to please people of all ages. You’ll hear timeless hits from these legendary artists and many more and dance to them all!

Aug. 22 – Mo50
