Women’s Research Colloquium Set For April 16

Published: April 15, 2015

The President’s Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) will host its signature event, the Women’s Research Colloquium, at the Pointe in the Walter Pyramid on Thursday, April 16, from 5-7:30 p.m. The evening will highlight CSULB scholars who contribute to our understanding of issues related to women and activists who advance causes important to the well-being of women.

Romance, German, Russian Languages and Literatures’ Bonnie Gasior will present “Monstrous Women in the Literary World of María de Zayas (1590-1661),” a discussion of María de Zayas, who scholars began to seriously reevaluate as a writer in the late 20th century.

Psychology’s Courtney Ahrens will present “A Victim-Centered Approach to Addressing the Rape Kit Backlog: Best Practices for Re-Engaging Survivors with the Criminal Justice System,” which will address the complex issues surrounding efforts to process the backlog of rape kits in thousands of police precincts throughout the country.

The Women’s Research Colloquium will also feature the presentation of the 2015 PCSW Advancement of Women Awards.
