Published: February 3, 2014

Following a national search, Cyrus Parker-Jeannette, current associate dean of the College of the Arts at CSULB, has been named the new dean of the College of the Arts at CSULB. Her appointment begins in the fall.

“As associate dean, Cyrus has been a very effective advocate for the College of the Arts. She has provided informed and inspired leadership for the college over the past four years. Her enthusiasm and her commitment to the college will be among her greatest assets as a dean,” said David Dowell, interim provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. “In announcing our new College of the Arts dean, I want to thank Chris Miles for his outstanding leadership as interim dean over the past year and a half. I also want to thank the search committee for their excellent work in this process.”

Parker-Jeannette, in her current duties, has been responsible for the college’s four graduate programs; assessment and accreditation; advising; enrollment management; curriculum; reappointment, tenure and promotion processes; college faculty and staff committee assignments and processes; student petitions and student issues.

As incoming dean, she assumes leadership of one of the largest, most comprehensive publicly supported arts colleges west of the Mississippi. The College of the Arts at CSULB encompasses accredited and nationally recognized programs in the visual arts, industrial and interior design, dance, film and electronic arts, music and theatre, along with the Carpenter Performing Arts Center and the University Art Museum.

She will be responsible for providing a strong and dynamic vision for the college while managing the college’s fiscal resources and personnel; for recruiting, evaluating, and retaining a well-qualified faculty and staff; and for developing effective student recruitment and retention programs in the college. She will report directly to the provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.

“It is a tremendous honor to be selected to serve the students, faculty and staff within the CSULB College of the Arts,” said Parker-Jeannette. “I look forward to building upon the excellence and outstanding sense of community our college already enjoys. There is tremendous enthusiasm among our faculty and students for increased engagement with each other and our community as we join together to defend, promote and expand the reach of the arts on levels both local and global. It will be my distinct pleasure to represent and serve CSULB and our College of the Arts as Dean.”
