Homecoming Set For Nov. 10; Free Tickets For Faculty And Staff

The campus community, alumni and friends are invited to celebrate “Homecoming 2012….Bringing Home the Gold!” on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in parking lot 13, adjacent to the Mike and Arline Walter Pyramid.

The Alumni Association will host an Alumni and Friends tent, celebrating 49er Pride and Tradition with the campus community, alumni and friends of the university. A Best of Both Worlds Buffet will be served from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., featuring brunch and barbecue selections. Guests in the alumni tent also receive a raffle drawing ticket and commemorative gift. In addition, there will be entertainment by the Emperors.

Game ticket packages are also available and include a meal and a ticket for the men’s basketball game vs. the North Alabama Lions tipping off at 3:05 p.m. Purchase a ticket for the men’s homecoming basketball game and receive free admission to the women’s volleyball match later that evening vs. UC Riverside beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Staff and faculty can enjoy the buffet and attend the basketball and volleyball games free as a guest of their vice president and bring guests for just $5 each. Visit the Beach Pride Zone which will highlight the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden, University Art Museum, Mobile Science Museum, College of Continuing and Professional Education, Student Recreation and Wellness Center and Bookstore Apparel Tent. The College of Engineering will display cars, a rocket and a pumpkin launcher, and the College of Health and Human Services will also demonstrate several forensic tools and methods in use today.

Additional activities will include a historical gallery celebrating more than 60 years of 49er history through yearbooks, photos and other various memorabilia; the Club Sports Arena with participants including the archery, gymnastics, long board, cheer, ice hockey, rugby and beach bellies; and the Student Village, showcasing student organizations including sororities and fraternities, which will participate in competitions and races and a tailgate decorating contest. Student activities will include jousting, mechanical bull riding, carnival games, henna tattoos, a caricature artist and airbrush tattoos; and a Vendor Village, where a variety of on- and off-campus vendors will display their products. In addition, the Homecoming Court will be revealed.
