Finite Element Methods Applications NX-6/7 and NX-NASTRAN (Volume I)

Presented at the annual Siemens PLM NX Software Conference held in Las Vegas in May, Finite Element Methods Applications NX-6/7 and NX-NASTRAN offers an easy way to learn the Finite Element Method through animation. “The book and software FEBEAM in color were very much appreciated,” said Ohtmer. “With the book, the animation software FEBEAM is submitted, solving every beam-, and frame problem. It represents a teaching tool for Finite Elements.” Compared to all other finite element books implementing FEBEAM and using NX6/NX7, the reader is guided to solve industry projects of arbitrary complexity. The CD delivered with the book also shows animations of Eigen-vectors, mechanisms, gear-systems and drilling of holes via power point, all based on solid modeling. Selected examples are described step by step to learn solid modeling, meshing, simulating and post-processing. Together with the CAST-LIBRARY in NX, the student or engineer can handle problems of arbitrary complexity. The Siemens PLM company is submitting the book and software to their 11,000 customers in 70 countries to download or to purchase. To make the same offer to everyone worldwide, Ohtmer created his own home page at Ohtmer was appointed department head for Applied Mechanics at the Messerschmitt-Boelkow-Blohm Co. in Munich from 1968-84. He was involved in large international projects such as the Tornado Fighter and the Airbus. Ohtmer was the head of the Development and Maintenance Team for the Finite Element Software System MBB-MAN-ICES-STRUDL. In this capacity he published the ICES-STRUDL – Operation Manual and ICES -STRUDL Application Manuals, Volume I and II. In 1984, Ohtmer joined CSULB’s Department of Mechanical Engineering where he served as chair from 1992-98. During this time, then-Dean Richard Williams received an $8 million grant from the National Science Foundation to coordinate the activities of the universities in Southern California. Ohtmer was one of the grant’s team leaders. He taught a Finite Element class for USC via distance learning and wrote the only technical report. A Rapid Prototyping, Four Axis CNC-, and other expensive equipment were purchased and new undergraduate and graduate curricula developed. Ohtmer is a member of the International CAD Committee, selecting papers presented at the annual CAD conference held in Taiwan in 2011. Ohtmer is an internationally known expert in Finite Element Methods, 3-D Computer-Aided Design (CAD)-, and Optimization Techniques. He has 80 scholarly publications and many papers presented at conferences and published in proceedings. His main research objective is to incorporate Rapid Prototyping, 3-D Scanning, Solid Modeling, FE Methods and Optimization Techniques in the integrated design and advanced manufacturing chain of processes.
