Language Tutoring

The Language Center is happy to provide free language tutoring to students enrolled in language classes on campus. Tutoring, conversation practice, and other language related support is available for ASL, Chinese, Filipino, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.

Individual & Group Learning

The Center strives to be a welcoming space to practice listening and speaking your new language. You can practice with classmates, other students studying your target language, native speakers, or our language tutors. While the Center is not able to provide quite study areas we do have many areas available for small group discussion and collaborative learning. Your campus group is also welcome to reserve one of our lab spaces for meetings or activities.

Collaborative Classroom Space

The Language Center has several spaces designed for collaborative teaching and learning. Room 305 is a computer lab and discussion space containing 24 student computing stations. Room 306 is a flexible space partitioned by a sliding wall providing workspaces accommodating 20-44 students. The small group discussion area in Room 306C can be reserved for group discussion, oral practice, or as an open interview space.

Study Abroad

Use the language skills you have worked so hard to obtain--travel abroad! Ask us about destinations and opportunities for travel and study abroad. We can help you connect with other CSU and campus resources.

All students are welcome to use the Language Center anytime, however priority will be given to students enrolled in foreign language courses.

Foreign Language Tutoring

The Language Center is happy to provide free language tutoring. Meet some of our language tutors:

Bonjour! My name is Holly Willaume and I am a French teacher and tutor. I have a B.A. in French from CSULA and am currently teaching French here at CSULB as a T.A. while finishing my M.A. in French and Francophone Studies. Because I have family in France I have the opportunity to engage with native speakers and visit often allowing me to update myself on the latest slang and idiomatic expressions in the language.

Hello everyone! 大家好!My name is HUI CHENG(程惠). I am a current student in the AAST M.A. program with an emphasis in teaching Chinese as a second language. I’m glad if i can help your Chinese learning.

I am Ting-Yu Lin. I am a MA Asian Studies student. I am also a Chinese tutor in the language lab and a Chinese instructor in Sato Academy. I will be happy to help you with your homework, test corrections, and any Chinese related questions. I am looking forward to seeing you in our language lab.

Tutoring, conversation practice, and other language related support is available for ASL, Chinese, Filipino, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish.
