One way that CSULB's College of Education produces exceptional schoolteachers is through its Urban Teacher Education Academy in a Clinical Home (UTEACH) program, where selected students receive intensive on-site training in a Long Beach Unified School District elementary school through a year-long residency that simultaneously integrates teaching methods coursework with student teaching.
It's so successful that the National Commission on Teaching and America's Future, and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education named it one of the nation's top teacher preparation programs.
SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union recognized UTEACH's importance and provided a five-year, $500,000 grant to provide scholarships and stipends to its students. The program has been renamed to acknowledge this generous support.
Taking part in UTEACH is time-intensive for students, so the grant helps relieve their financial burdens and enables them to focus on becoming the best teachers. CSULB is grateful to SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union for its commitment to preparing the next generation of highly qualified educators.
