The Campaign for California State University, Long Beach

Coca-Cola Scholars program

The Beach has a well-earned national reputation as a "Best Value" public university, yet many of our students are unable to afford the cost of a CSULB education without some form of financial assistance. Often, it is the assurance of scholarship support that makes the difference in attracting and retaining exceptional students who will bring new voices to the campus — and to their chosen fields of endeavor.

Recognizing CSULB's longstanding commitment to underserved and first-generation students, The Coca-Cola Foundation, the global philanthropic arm of The Coca-Cola Company, awarded the university a $500,000 grant to establish a Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship at The Beach.

In addition to being first-generation college students (they cannot have a parent or sibling who has ever attended college), Coca-Cola Scholars must demonstrate financial need and perform well academically. The four-year scholarships were awarded to the first cohort of 25 Coca-Cola Scholars in fall 2012, and they are renewed on an annual basis.

We are very grateful to The Coca-Cola Foundation for helping the university expand access to higher education and, ultimately, boost student success and close achievement gaps for low-income and first-generation students.
