Dee Abrahamse

Portrait of Dee Abrahamse

Dorothy "Dee" Abrahamse, former College of Liberal Arts (CLA) Dean and Interim Provost of CSULB, is passionate about the intertwining role(s) and research collaboration opportunities between students and faculty. In 2010, Dee gave a generous gift to CLA to endow the Faculty-Student Research program, which was founded in 2005 to bring faculty and different fields in the humanities and social sciences together to study a significant interdisciplinary issue with undergraduate students who generate original research.

Through this project, groups have traveled to India to study 18th century colonialism, performed community research on children and immigration and have studied the East European borderlands. To the benefit of both students and faculty, this project has resulted in multiple publications and ongoing research projects with international collaborators and service to the community.

For more information on the Faculty-Student Research project in the College of Liberal Arts, please contact Howie Fitzgerald, Director of Development, CLA at (562) 985-1619.

Since first joining CSULB in 1967, Dee, a specialist in Medieval and Byzantine history, has been chair of the History Department, co-coordinator of Women's Studies and served as both associate dean and dean of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. As dean of CLA, her greatest pleasure came from the opportunity to support the development of new programs and to hire (and mentor) a generation of outstanding new faculty.
