On June 13, Penny Peterson, coordinator of the High Tech Center for Disabled Student Services, passed away following a stroke. She was 64. During her tenure at the university, Peterson played an instrumental role with providing adaptive technology support to students with disabilities. She began working at CSULB in 1989.
On October 13, Stephanie Rios, assistant director of the Isabel Patterson Child Development Center, passed away due to complications from a brain aneurysm. As the manager of the center's infant/toddler program, Rios touched the lives of countless children and their parents. She was 45 and had worked at the campus for more than 12 years.
