On August 17, Ferdinand Arcinue and Kirstyn Chun, Counseling and Psychological Services, gave a peer-reviewed poster presentation, “No More Geisha Boys: Developing Healthy Identities for Gay Asian American Men” at the American Psychological Association Annual Convention in San Francisco.
Ferdinand Arcinue, Kirstyn Chun, Diane Hayashino, Counseling and Psychological Services, and Mary Ann Takemoto, Student Services, gave a panel presentation, “Promoting Community Connections and Social Justice in a University Counseling Center” at the Asian American Psychological Association Annual Convention on August 16 in San Francisco.
Mike Hostetler, Student Services, and Jeff Klaus, Student Life and Development, gave a presentation, “Legal Issues, Judicial Decisions and Safety Concerns in Practice” on November 3 at the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Western Regional Conference in Las Vegas. Hostetler is a member of NASPA’s Public Policy Board and Klaus is a member of the planning committee for the 2008 NASPA Western Regional Conference.
On December 4 on Terminal Island, Jeff Klaus also gave a presentation, “Interpersonal Communication Skills and Decision Making” at a training session for department chairs of the U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons.
On October 30, Mary Ann Takemoto and Mike Hostetler, Student Services, participated in a panel discussion, “Safety, Mental Health and Student Behavior at CSULB.” Other panelists were Jack Pearson, University Police, and Holly Harbinger, Academic Personnel. The on-campus event was sponsored by the Campus Climate Committee and the Faculty Center for Professional Development.
Howard Wray, Educational Equity Services, was named the 2007 treasurer of the year by the California State NAACP. Wray is serving his third two-year term as treasurer of the Long Beach Branch NAACP.
