University Ombuds

The Office of University Ombuds is an independent, neutral resource for informal problem-solving on campus. The office serves all members of the campus community: students, alumni, faculty, staff, adminstrators, emeriti and retirees. The university ombuds respects the privacy of visitors and maintains confidentiality within the limits of the law. If your student wishes to speak to staff of the Office of University Ombuds, please encourage him/her to make an appointment.

The university ombuds encourages people with a campus-related problem to seek out the office for:

  • Information about campus policies and procedures
  • Information about campus resources
  • A safe place to discuss and reflect upon issues or problems
  • A place to brainstorm and explore options
  • Help with facilitating communication with peers or with faculty
  • Conflict resolution and mediation services

The university ombuds also serves as an agent for organizational change by:

  • Informally investigating campus-related problems
  • Tracking trends and general issues on campus
  • Recommending policy changes to remedy systemic problems
  • Collaborating with others to improve campus life and strengthen the campus community
