Workshop Features

The Lois J. Swanson Leadership Resource Center's Leadership Academy offers free workshops throughout the year for those enrolled in the Leadership Academy program. If you are interested in registering for any of the workshops and want to join the program, please contact us for more information. Alternatively, you may sign up for workshops and speak with us any time before attending your first academy workshop.

View our workshop calendar and RSVP for workshops here. You will need to log onto BeachSync.com to view and RSVP for workshops. This site is updated often, so check frequently. Use the links provided on the calendar to view the workshop descriptions. To ease your registration process, take note of the date and time of any particular workshops you desire to attend. Use your Leadership Academy Completion Checklist worksheet to keep track of your progress and timeline.

Graduating from the Leadership Academy Program

Please email us (Leaders@csulb.edu) by the following deadlines during the Semester that you are planning to graduate from the Leadership Academy program.

You DO NOT need to have all requirements completed the following deadlines:

  • Spring Semester:
    • If you are planning to Graduate from the Leadership Academy during Spring semester, please email us your intent to graduate by February 28th
  • Fall Semester:
    • If you are planning to Graduate from the Leadership Academy during Fall semester, please email us your intent to graduate by October 1st
     

* Failure to email the Leadership Academy about your intent to graduate from the program by the deadlines above will result in your ineligibility to graduate from the program.

Community Service Opportunities

Leadership Academy Students are to complete 20 hours of service as part of their Leadesrhip Academy requirement. Students are to utlize what they have learned in their Leadership Academy workshops towards positive social change through community service.

Leadership Academy Progress Status

The Leadership Academy has a number of requirements that you must meet in order to graduate with a certificate.

Keep track of your progress using the Leadership Academy Completion Checklist Worksheet.

You can also view your workshop credits by:

  1. Logging onto www.beachsync.com
  2. Click on your name at hte top right
  3. Click on "Involvement"
  4. Click on "All Organizations" and filter for Leadership Academy

Cancel Your Workshops

Though we are sad that you cannot attend, it is important for you to tell us that you are not going to be at a workshop. The Leadership Academy allows only a certain number of missed workshops before your standing is reviewed--make sure to cancel ahead of time! You may email (leaders@csulb.edu) or call (562-985-1936) us to cancel a workshop.

Your Access Code: leadershipacademy

You will be asked to provide your email address and to create a login password.

Complete the "Financial Basics" module.

Please print your completion certificate and submit it to the Leadership Resource Center to receive credit.

You may also email us (Leaders@csulb.edu) a PDF copy of your completion certificate.

Electives - Leadership Development Campus Opportunities

The Leadership Development Campus Opportunities is a listing of leadership development workshops and opportunities offered through a collaboration between the Lois J. Swanson Leadership Resource Center and other CSULB campus departments, programs, services, resources, and offices. These workshops are open to all CSULB students.

Workshops and opportunities listed also complements students in the Leadership Academy program. Most of the listed workshops and opportunities will count as Leadership Academy Elective credit.

Theory to Practice Paper

One of the final requirements for the Leadership Academy program is to write a Theory to Practice Paper. This is a self-reflection paper that discusses your growth and development through the Leadership Academy program. The Theory to Practice prompt and directions can be downloaded by clicking here.

Request Academy Audit Report

For Leadership Academy students who have been enrolled in the program prior to December 2016, you may request at any time an "audit" report that will allow you to see how many requirements you have fulfilled and how many are left to fulfill.
