Intended to complement the general graduation ceremony, LG is a unique commencement celebration for LGBTQIA-identified graduates of all races and ethnicities. Heterosexual ally graduates are also encouraged to participate.
The acronym LGBTQIA represents a broad array of various identities including (and not limited to):
Absolutely. Allies take a stand when injustices against LGBTQIA-persons are perpetuated, so your participation is requested.
Simply put, no. LG is a supplemental commencement ceremony intended to complement the main commencement celebration. In no way is LG intended to conflict with, or replace, one's CSULB university graduation.
LG is scheduled for Monday, May 16, 2016 from 5PM - 7PM at the University Student Union Ballrooms.
The LG planning committee consists of student organizers who collaborate with Delta Lambda Phi Fraternity, Queers and Allies, and the LGBT Student Resource Center on campus. Faculty/Staff advisors and a number of other on-campus departments and organizations also assist in ensuring a successful event.
An ally is a person who sympathizes with, fights for, believes in, and unconditionally accepts LGBTIQ-identified persons.
Not at all. The LG is open to all graduates of CSULB, from all of the colleges.
Yes. LG is $20 for participating graduates. This entitles graduates with a Commemorative Lavender Stole, a rainbow tassel, light refreshments after the ceremony, and up to 5 tickets for their guests. Additional tickets for guests are $1.00 each. Payments must be made at the Associated Students Business Office (USU-229) in cash only.

We are always looking for volunteers. Because this is an event that will continue for years to come, we are encouraging freshman and sophomores especially to step forward and help with the planning so that when you graduate you will already know how to organize this event smoothly. Please email Dr. Jon Higgins at firstname.lastname@example.org or Anna Nazarian-Peters at email@example.com to join the fun!
