Peer Educator Program

There are two different ways to become involved with the Health Resource Center (HRC):

1) Wellness Warriors

2) Peer Educators

Wellness Warriors

Wellness Warriors are our outreach volunteers who represent the Student Health Services on campus.

Job duties include:

  • Attend trainings to learn about a variety of health topics in the HRC
  • Set up, conduct outreach and clean up tables, chairs, etc. for outreach events on campus
  • Promote the Student Health Services and all of our programs during events

What are we looking for?

  • Excellent verbal skills
  • Professional and responsible
  • Comfortable talking to students, staff and faculty about our programs and health education topics
  • Comfortable talking about topics important to college students (e.g., alcohol and drug use/abuse, sexual health, tobacco use/abuse, sexual assault, etc.)
  • Comfortable conducting condom demonstrations
  • Able to volunteer an average of 2 hours per week
  • Minimum commitment of one semester.

Peer Educators

We have a core group of internal peer educators who will work in the Health Resource Center. This is for interns, volunteers and paid student assistants. Some of the job duties include:

  • Teaching Sexual Health Awareness Workshops
  • Teaching Nutrition Workshops
  • Teaching Stress Management Workshops
  • Going to classrooms teaching students about the SHS, sexual health, stress management and nutrition
  • Scheduling appointments for patients, answering phones and providing information about our programs and services to students
  • Coordinating and implementing outreach events on campus
  • Training Wellness Warriors to conduct outreach events on campus
  • Assisting health educators and supervisors with special projects
  • Writing articles for newsletter and website

What are we looking for?

  • Professional and responsible
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable with group presentations
  • Comfortable talking about topics important to college students (e.g., alcohol and drug use/abuse, tobacco use/abuse, sexual health, etc.)
  • Self-motivated and mature
  • Willing to work in a team environment and able to work independently
  • Passionate about health education
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week (maximum of 20 hours/week)
  • Internship positions (for class credit or volunteer) available throughout the year including summer and winter sessions.
  • Must commit to a minimum of one full semester regardless of required internship hours.
