Frequently Asked Questions About Parking for Housing Students

  1. Is parking guaranteed for Housing and Residential Life residents?

    Parking spaces are limited and not guaranteed. Parking spaces will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis for residents who have requested parking on their Housing Application. CSULB actively encourages students to partake in the Healthy Campus Initiative by finding alternative means of transportation.

  2. Who owns and manages the parking for Housing and Residential Life?

    Parking structures are owned and managed by Parking Services. Housing and Residential Life staff collaborates with Parking Services in an effort to maximize parking for CSULB residents.

  3. If I reside in Beachside College, am I guaranteed a parking space?

    No, parking spaces are limited and assigned based on availability. We will do our best to accommodate residents at Beachside.

  4. If I reside in Hillside and Parkside Colleges, am I guaranteed a parking space?

    No, parking spaces are limited and assigned based on availability. We will do our best to accommodate residents at either college.

  5. If I did not indicate that I need parking on my Housing Application, can I still apply for parking?

    Yes, you may apply for parking at any time, and parking will be assigned based on availability.

  6. Are there alternative methods of transportation if I do not bring my vehicle to CSULB?

    Residents are encouraged to utilize public transportation or other alternatives for travel . For more information please see our Sustainable Transportation Options.

  7. Why is parking availability reduced?

    On-campus parking availability was reduced in response to long-term campus planning, sustainability, and increased enrollment at California State University, Long Beach.

  8. I would like to file an appeal?

    A residence hall student with an extraordinary situation may appeal for an exception (download Appeal Form) to the parking policy. Reasons that are considered invalid justifications include: the distance one lives from home, work obligations, and social activities.

    The appeal form, a letter of explanation, and any supporting documentation should be e-mailed to Please include “PARKING APPEAL” in the subject field. No in person forms will be accepted.

    HRL Parking Appeal Committee shall review all appeals and respond to students in writing. Exceptions will be granted based on legitimate need and availability. Appeals must be approved before a permit can be purchased. Students who are granted an exception shall be required to park in a specific parking lot and will not have full campus parking privileges.

    HRL reserves the right to grant permits based on legitimate need; limited spaces means that space availability cannot be guaranteed.

    All appeals submitted to HRL are subject to verification via audits. If audited, appeal applicants may be required to provide additional documentation verifying all information provided in the appeal. Students who falsify information shall have their appeals terminated, or their parking permits revoked, and they shall be referred to Office of Student Conduct and Ethical Development.


  9. When can appeals be submitted?

    To provide the same opportunity to all residents, HRLA will accept completed forms as follows:

    • Fall Semester - June 1, 2017 to July 10, 2017.

    • Spring Semester – December 2, 2017 to January 12, 2018.

    Applications submitted before or after the scheduled timeframes will not be accepted.
    Please note: Parking is very limited and very few appeals are able to be granted.
