• Current and former foster youth, students who are wards of the court, under legal guardianship or unaccompanied homeless youth
  • Matriculated at CSULB
  • Complete the CSULB Guardian Scholars application
  • Considered "independent" under federal financial aid guidelines
  • California Resident
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • FAFSA financial aid application completed by the required filing date www.fafsa.gov

Application Process

Complete and submit the following to the EOP Office:

  1. Download Application Packet for Guardian Scholars Program and follow the instructions listed in the packet.
  2. One to two pages typed personal statement
  3. One letter of recommendation
  4. A list of three accomplishments from high school or community college
  5. Copy of ward of the court documentation (Foster youth verification letter)
  6. Be admitted to CSULB and complete an EOP application www.calstate.edu/apply
  7. Student are encouraged to complete an EOP application but not required
