I have had the pleasure of working with the Educational Opportunity Program since 1988 and was recently appointed to the position of director. I was proud to accept this position because I believe that providing access and services to low-income underrepresented students is as vital today as it was when the program began 36 years ago, and I welcome the opportunity to lead EOP in the coming years.
Our students graduate. You become doctors, lawyers, administrators and educators and you contribute to the economic well-being of this state. We look to you to become future leaders in the community, the state and the nation. I am proud to be associated with a program that will facilitate your success at California State University, Long Beach as you move toward achieving your educational and career goals.
It is important to not only keep you informed about the program but to also reach out to our alumni and program supporters so that they can know how the program has developed. Our newsletter will also serve entering students and their parents to inform them about the University and EOP.
In this first newsletter issue there are many features which I am confident that you will enjoy. Our goal will be to inform you, inspire you and to connect you to the university and to EOP. I give you my personal pledge that EOP will stay connected to you. If you ever feel the need to speak with me or to e-mail me, please feel free to do so. I welcome your comments and questions.
Thank you. It has been a pleasure to serve you.
