Advising for Current Students

CSULB offers a variety of advising opportunities for current students.

New Students

New students are advised and registered during Student Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR) before the fall semester begins.

Undeclared freshmen and BLC freshmen are required to attend a mandatory freshman advising workshop both in the fall (before registration for spring courses) and in the spring (before registration for fall courses). Freshman Fall/Spring Advising is critical to getting CSULB’s newest students off to a great start!

When to See a UCUA Advisor

BLC and undeclared students should make an appointment to see a UCUA advisor for questions about:

  • Major Specific Declaration Requirements and the major declaration process
  • Choosing a major or if you have concerns regarding your initial choice of major
  • Degree progress or fulfilling university requirements

Any CSULB student may contact the UCUA with questions regarding:

  • identifying or exploring a new major
  • academic probation
  • academic disqualification or reinstatement to CSULB

When to See Your College or Department Advisor

Students with questions about their major requirements are encouraged to contact their college or departmental advisors.

Students should review their Academic Requirements Report regularly and meet with their college or department advisors often to ensure that they are making timely progress toward degree completion.
