Position Open for Director of Center for Undergraduate Research

CSULB tenured associate or full professors are invited to apply for the newly created Director of the Center for Undergraduate Research. The appointment carries six units of assigned time per semester and will be effective for the 2016-17 academic year. Additional employment in summer and winter sessions is negotiable. Summer Student Research Assistantships


Academic Affairs, in collaboration with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, is pleased to invite applications for the Student Research Assistant Program.  This program is designed to encourage student participation in a broad range of scholarly and academic activities and is open to eligible undergraduates and graduates from all disciplines and academic areas of study.  The assistantship provides financial support during the 2016 summer intersession months to undertake full-time research and scholarly activities in collaboration with a CSULB faculty (or principal investigator) research mentor.  Research mentors are expected to meet regularly with their assistant and provide a blend of supervision that provides directed guidance with scope for initiative and independent thought. RSCA – Reassigned Time (AT), Small Faculty Grants (SFG), & Mini Grants and Summer Stipends (MGSS) - REVISED DUE DATE to February 1, 2016!

The Division of Academic Affairs is pleased to announce the availability of funds to support Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity (RSCA) for 2016-17.  Internally administered support for RSCA is available in the form of reassigned time, small faculty grants, mini-grants, and summer stipends. The Chancellor’s Office will provide system-level funding for mini-grants and summer stipends (MGSS).  Faculty members receiving new faculty reassigned time are only eligible to apply for Small Faculty Grants. Please see the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Funding Opportunities website for details and the MGSS Application.

 All proposals are to be submitted to your college office by  Monday, February 1st by 5 p.m.  A faculty member is allowed to apply for only one of the four awards in a given year. Please see the Academic Senate Policy 11-08 §3.1 for details.



NSF Issues New PAPPG and Informational Webinar

NSF announced that the revised Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG), (NSF 16-1) has been issued.  The new PAPPG will be effective for proposals submitted, or due, on or after January 25, 2016.  

 Significant changes include:

    • Enforcement of 5 p.m. submitter’s local time across all NSF funding opportunities;
    • Implementation of NSF’s Public Access Policy;
    • Submission of proposal certifications by the Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR) concurrently with proposal submission;
    • NSF’s implementation of the US Government Policy for Institutional Oversight of Life Sciences on Dual Use Research of Concern;
    • Provision of Collaborators and Other Affiliations information as a new single-copy document, instead of as part of the Biographical Sketch; 
    • Submission of Biographical Sketches and Current and Pending Support separately for each senior personnel;
    • Electronic signature and submission of notifications and requests by the AOR only;
    • Revision of timeframe for submission of final project reports, project outcomes reports and financial closure of awards to 120 days after the award end date; and
    • Numerous clarifications throughout the document.

 A webinar to brief the community on the new PAPPG will be held on October 29th at 2 PM EST.  Registration is required at

The California State University Long Beach Research Foundation’s federally negotiated Indirect Cost Recovery (IDC) rates from July 1, 2015-June 30, 2016 for grants and contracts are as follows:
