Core Facilities and Services

IIRMES laboratory

Institute for Integrated Research in Materials, Environments, and Society (IIRMES): IIRMES maintains a core analytical facility that includes an inventory of capital equipment that permits multi-scalar chemical analyses for elemental, isotopic and molecular characterization. The Institute serves to embrace and extend existing interdisciplinary research collaborations between faculty and students from different disciplines in physical, natural and social sciences.


Center for Education in Proteomics Analysis (CEPA): CEPA comprises a core facility offering high-sensitivity and high-resolution mass spectrometry for protein, peptide and molecular analysis as its primary technology. CEPA was made possible by a grant from the Keck Foundation and matching funds from the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

Marine lab wet table and tanks

Marine Laboratory: The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics marine laboratory facility has two separate closed sea water systems, one with six tanks and a wet table housed outside the lab and the other consisting of five tanks and a wet table housed inside the lab. The facility is supported by five inshore vessels with different capabilities ranging in size from a 14' aluminum skiff to a 25' Parker with two 150 hp Yamaha engines. Students using CHAAT computers to perform psuedopilot operations

Center for Human Factors in Advanced Aeronautics Technologies (CHAAT): has state of the art computer workstations and simulation software. CHAAT has approximately 20 workstations with superior graphics capabilities for running simulations of air traffic control workstations, air vehicle cockpits and ROV payload stations. NASA Ames Research Center donated software that enables real time simulations and evaluations of these components of the national airspace system.
