Did You Know?

CSULB students' creation of a non-invasive diagnostic tool for pulmonary physicians took the top prize at the university's Innovation Challenge last week.

Other products that made it to the finals in the competition were an "ultimate" travel toothbrush, a multifunctional pet leash and an online marketplace that provides toolboxes and algorithms coded in MATLAB to the education, commercial and government communities.

Achievement Awards Ceremony Honors 14

Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the University Achievement Awards honoring 14 members of the campus community.

  • 3 to 7 pm - Student and faculty research and creative work on display
  • 4 to 5 pm - Awards Ceremony

Be Part of the Biggest Campus Event of the Year

Staff are invited to participate in the 2014 Commencement ceremonies, May 20-23. Volunteers are needed to help make the day special for graduates and their families by:

  • Distributing Commencement programs
  • Assisting the Platform Party in the VIP Staging Room
  • Providing directions to guests on campus, including directing guests with special needs to accessible routes.

Volunteers are asked to work a minimum of two-hour time periods. If you are interested and have received your supervisor's approval, please contact Michelle Terry via email at or at extension 5-4546.

Open Forums for Vice President of Student Services

Finalists for the Vice President for Student Services position will be on campus over the next two weeks.

Faculty and staff are invited to learn more about the candidates, attend the open forums and provide feedback about the finalists. Information and a link to submit feedback may be found on the Student Services website.

Get Ready to Ride! Thursday May 15 is Bike to Work Day

Skip a trip to the gym and bike to work! On Thursday, May 15 from 7 to 9 am at the West Turnaround by the Brotman Hall fountain, CSULB Rideshare Sustainable Transportation is joining with the CSULB Cycling Club and JAX Bicycles to host a "Pit Stop/Energizing Station" to encourage, assist and thank people who ride their bikes to campus.

Refreshments and giveaway items will be offered, and mechanics from JAX Bikes will be on site to provide free 12-point safety inspections.

Bicycling is a great way to travel to work and stay fit at the same time. Call the Rideshare Coordinator at extension 5-4091 to help plan your trip to campus by bike.

ASCSU Senator Election Results

The results are in. Dr. David Hood (History) has been reelected as CSULB's representative to the statewide Academic Senate. Thank you to Dr. Hood and to all of the candidates for their willingness to serve the university and the CSU system in this capacity.

Earth Expo is Next Week

Celebrate Earth Day at CSULB's Earth Expo. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 23 from 11 am to 2 pm in the University Student Union.

Hosted by the Financial Management Green Team and ASI, the event includes information on sustainability, sustainable food and rewards.

Sustainable transportation vendors will be present only on April 22 to answer questions and provide consultations on walking, biking, carpooling, vanpooling and taking transit to campus.
