Register for the Scholarly Writing Institute
Faculty are invited to register for the Scholarly Writing Institute (SWI) by Monday, May 13.
The Institute will be held June 10 – 12 to assist faculty in completing a substantial amount of writing on a specific scholarly writing project. The program will provide participants 12 hours of dedicated writing time and resource consultants who are recognized for their expertise in specific areas such as editing, illustration, and statistical analyses. Consultants will be included in the Institute depending on the types of challenges individual faculty face.

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is offering a Research Grants and Contracts Orientation and Writing Workshop the week of July 22 to July 26. Professional experts will be providing training during this weeklong event on topics including:
New faculty who have never submitted a proposal are strongly encouraged to attend. Registration is required for individuals who wish to attend the entire full-week workshop. Space is limited so early registration is encouraged to avoid disappointment.
Please note that registration is not required for those individuals who would simply like to attend one or more of the offered training modules.

Open Forums for the Director of Writing Across the Curriculum
Finalists for the Director of Writing Across the Curriculum will be on campus Thursday, May 9, Monday, May 13 and Tuesday, May 14. The Search Committee invites faculty and staff to attend the open forums to meet and ask questions of each candidate.
The primary duties of the Director will be to help all departments and programs develop upper-division, writing-intensive courses to fulfill the new Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) and to help develop writing courses in the major. This is a tenure/tenure-track position, and the qualified candidate who fills it will work directly under the AVP for Undergraduate Studies.

What’s Coming to CPAC: 2013-14 Season Preview
Faculty and staff are invited to attend the 2013-14 Season Preview Party at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, May 14 at 7 pm.
Hosted by Executive Director Michele Roberge, this free event will introduce the Center’s entire season of professional artists coming to perform at CSULB. The eclectic line-up includes appearances by:

State of the Trade and Transportation Industry Town Hall
The Center for International Trade and Transportation (CITT) will hold a free town hall meeting on Wednesday, May 15 from 6 – 8:30 pm in the Carpenter Performing Arts Center.
This year’s event, “Efficiency and Competitiveness: Securing Cargo and Jobs,” will focus on defining what makes a port competitive. Topics will include how efficiency across the supply chain impacts the region’s economy, affects the community, and provides job opportunities. The town hall will also address how the impact of local decisions affects national and global competitiveness.

The awards were announced the same week the Chamber Choir performed with the Rolling Stones. Sixteen members of the choir sang “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” with the band during the encore at Staples Center Friday night.
