2013-14 RSCA Funding Applications

Please be reminded that Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity (RSCA) applications are due in College offices on Friday, February 1. 


Seeking Faculty Proposals

This is a reminder that faculty proposals are being accepted for the following instruction and research opportunities:

Converting your Summer 2013 class to an online format. Deadline: January 25.

Fall 2013 - Spring 2014 Multidisciplinary Research Award. Deadline: February 1.

Spring 2013 Faculty Research Stipend Award. Deadline: February 1.

Alternative Spring Break 2014. Deadline: February 22.

Call for Faculty Jurors: Student Research Competition

The CSULB Student Research Competition will be held February 22. We are asking faculty to volunteer for potential “juror duty” the day of our campus competition (Friday, February 22, with a window of 12-5 pm). It is a great opportunity to see CSULB students present impressive research and creative activities undertaken through the mentorship of CSULB faculty.

Faculty who are interested in volunteering for the “juror pool” can RSVP to or  extension 5-4546 by Friday, January 25.

Faculty are also asked to encourage competitive students to participate in the competition. Additional information, including how students can enter the competition, is available online.


Try the LifeFit Center Next Week for Free

CSULB faculty and staff age 50 and above can take advantage of the LifeFit Center @ The Beach for free next week, January 22-25.

The LifeFit Center offers cardio and resistance training equipment as well as group fitness classes. Locker rooms are available for showers & changing (towel service provided).

Group Fitness Classes are held:

  • Monday/Wednesday: 10 am – 1 pm; 5:30 – 7:30 pm
  • Tuesday/Thursday: 10 am – 12 pm
  • Friday: 10 am – 1 pm

The LifeFit Center is open Monday – Thursday from 9 am – 2 pm and 5 – 8 pm; Friday from 9 am – 2 pm. Faculty and staff who sign up to become a member between January 22 – 25 receive 50 percent off the first month’s dues! For more information, visit the LifeFit Center website.

Easy Strategies…Estate Planning in an Uncertain World

The Office of Gift Planning is hosting a three-part series featuring financial professionals from the areas of law, insurance and finance. They will present information and answer questions on the following topics:

  • February 7: Estate & Income Tax Update: Life Over the Fiscal Cliff
  • February 21: Planning for Retirement: Ways to Not Outlive Your Money
  • February 28: Estate Planning 101: All You Need to Know about Wills & Trusts, But Were Afraid to Ask

CCEJ Interfaith/Intercultural Breakfast is February 12

The California Conference for Equality and Justice is hosting its 22nd Interfaith/Intercultural Breakfast on Tuesday, February 12 at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center from 6:45 – 9:30 am.

Author, inspirational speaker and activist for peace and forgiveness Azim Khamisa will be the keynote speaker discussing “Teaching People how to Achieve Peace through the Practice of Forgiveness.”

Did You Know?

Craig Richey (Bob Cole Conservatory of Music) scored the “The World According to Dick Cheney,” a documentary on the former vice president, which will premiere Friday at the Sundance Film Festival. He will also be part of a roundtable discussion at Sundance: ‘Music and Film, the Creative Process Produced,' which explores the creative relationship between composer & director.

“The World According To Dick Cheney” will air on pay cable channel Showtime on March 15 as the premiere episode of a new biography series featuring portraits of notable Americans.
