Call for Presentation Abstracts: 2013 Women’s Research Colloquium

The 2013 Women’s Research Colloquium, sponsored by the President’s Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW), announces its call for presentation abstracts.

The purpose of the Women’s Research Colloquium is to learn about research done by women and/or research related to women’s issues and concerns. The Colloquium features two presentations by faculty or staff and will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at The Pointe in the Pyramid.

Reminder: Register for Writing Institute by December 10

There are still spots available for faculty who want to attend the Scholarly Writing Institute, offering dedicated writing time and resource consultants to provide assistance January 7 – 9 in the Anatol Center (AS-119).

Faculty interested in registering for the Scholarly Writing Institute (SWI) are asked to attend all three days of the workshop, have most of their research completed (i.e., ready to write) and have a laptop or desktop computer available for their use.

Register by Monday, December 10.

Cherishing the Children Toy Drive

Faculty and staff are invited to bring new, unwrapped toys by Monday, December 3 for CSULB’s 15th annual Cherishing the Children Toy Drive for needy children. Toys can be dropped off at the following collection boxes throughout campus:

  • Brotman Hall – Staff Personnel (BH 335)
  • Brotman Hall – President's Office Lobby (BH 303)
  • Brotman Hall – ITS (BH-188)
  • Facilities Management
  • Horn Center
  • Library
  • Audio Visual Services (PH2 -117)

Volunteers Needed

A party for the children will take place on Wednesday, December 5 from 3:30 – 6 pm in The Pointe in the Walter Pyramid. The party is hosted by Staff Council and the Office of the President. Volunteers are needed to assist at the party as well as to wrap gifts on Monday, December 3 at 11:30 am in AS-124b.

Additional toys will be collected through December 14 and will be donated to the Long Beach Fire Department’s Spark of Love toy drive for other underprivileged children.

Fifth Anniversary of The Beach on 2nd Street

Celebrate the fifth anniversary of The Beach on 2nd Street in Belmont Shore on Saturday, December 1. The 49er Shops is hosting an open house with special savings and refreshments. Come for the celebration and stay for the Belmont Shore Holiday Parade which kicks off at 6 pm.

CSULB is helping laid-off teachers from Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) get back in the classroom.

A $140,000 National Emergency Grant to California, administered by the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network (PGWIN), has made it possible for 11 former LBUSD teachers to enroll in a new accelerated special education credential program with all expenses paid for.
