Dr. Mark Wiley

Dr. Mark Wiley became the Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs on January 2, 2015.

For nine years, Dr. Wiley was the Associate Dean of Personnel and Curriculum in the College of Liberal Arts. He was also a tenured full professor in the Department of English.

Dr. Wiley brings a wealth of experience to the position. As associate dean, he oversaw the recruitment and hiring of new faculty. He also managed lecturer hiring, evaluation and compensation. He was responsible for handling conflicts among personnel and between students and instructors.

Before taking on the role of associate dean, Dr. Wiley served for three years as director of the Faculty Center for Professional Development. As director, he consulted with faculty regarding teaching, assessment and RTP and conducted classroom observations. He conducted many workshops to support faculty professional development. He also collaborated with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to develop the Scholarly Writing Institute.

Dr. Wiley is an expert in rhetoric and composition. He served as the coordinator of the English Department’s first-year Composition Program. He has also been involved in K-12 reform and the K-16 partnership in the Long Beach area as well as general education reform at CSULB.

A CSULB alum, Dr. Wiley received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in American Literature from The Beach and his PhD in Rhetoric, Linguistics, and Literature from the University of Southern California.
