University 100 Seeks Faculty

Effective fall 2009, the UNIV100 requirement has been discontinued for CSULB students. For additional questions or concerns, please contact 562-985-1654.

The University 100 program is seeking faculty to teach the university's introductory course for incoming students during the 2010-2011 academic year.

University 100, The University in Your Future, is a one-unit course designed to introduce students to the mission of the university and facilitate their transition to college. In response to suggestions from faculty, staff and students, the University 100 program is incorporating several new elements to the program this year, including a common first-year book (coordinated with the Long Beach Reads One Book program) and activities designed to foster student engagement. Students will not only explore their personal and professional goals, but will also learn how to construct four-year academic plans that encourage them to take ownership of their academic careers and successes.

In addition to ensuring the academic success of our students, University 100 also strives to provide instructors with a unique opportunity to get to know freshmen in a small-group setting. Faculty members traditionally teach three sections over the course of an academic year. A majority of the course offerings are taught in the fall in a 10-week format. A handful of sections are also offered in a five-day intensive format (three hours per class meeting) during the fall and spring pre-semester.

Current full-time lecturers and professors may be eligible for assigned time in exchange for teaching University 100. Interested full-time faculty and lecturers are encouraged to forward a letter of interest and a copy of their curriculum vitae to the University 100 Program Office (Mailstop 2006). Contact the program office at (562) 985-1654, if you have any questions.
