As you know, the process of discussing, vetting, and voting on a revised University Reappointment, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP) document is nearly complete. Ballots regarding the proposed revised University RTP document have been distributed to the full faculty by the Academic Senate and are due today, March 27. Associate Vice President for Academic Personnel Holly Harbinger has distributed implementation guidelines for revised RTP documents to all colleges, and we have been engaged in a number of college conversations this month about RTP alignment. In April, Interim Associate Vice President for Research and External Support Jim Till and I will be visiting with college councils and appropriate committees to discuss implementation of the Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity (RSCA) Workload Reassignment Program that will be decentralized to the colleges.

Decentralizing the RSCA reassignment program will allow colleges to take ownership over faculty assigned time in support of RSCA activities and lengthen RSCA support for a two-year period.
There is additional good news regarding the Office of University Research. Thanks to the supportive partnership with Vice President of Administration and Finance Mary Stephens, the Foundation, and Jim Till, we are now moving forward with an integration of pre- and post-award staff in the Office of University Research. This reorganization will greatly benefit our faculty and staff involved in grant and contract work. Jim Till is also working proactively with faculty across the colleges to help identify important opportunities for new stimulus funding in support of new research and public need that have significant impact for the state and our university. With respect to our hiring goals for 2009-10, we have had considerable success so far in attracting strong candidates in many of our searches. To date,17 new tenure track hires have been made. In addition, the search committee has been interviewing semifinalists for the dean of health and human services position this week. We anticipate finalists on campus the second and third weeks in April. Information about the candidates and their respective public forums will be available online once the finalists have been identified.
Finally, I would like to offer my sincere appreciation to everyone who participated in the reaccreditation process with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) visiting team earlier this month. We received very positive feedback from the team during the exit interview. The WASC team will submit an official report in May highlighting our strengths as well as specific areas in which we should continue to focus. WASC team members were clearly impressed with the quality of our students, faculty, and staff, and with the wonderful collaborative spirit that is a campus hallmark.
Knowing that April will be an especially busy month, with many important activities and celebrations as well as important end-of-term college and department activities, I hope that the approaching spring break will give you a chance to catch your breath and catch up.
