We were fifth in the nation in the number of applications from first-time freshmen, according to a January 2013 article in U.S.News & World Report. The ranking was based on data from Fall 2011 admissions when we had 49,767 applications from first-time freshmen.
The number of applications we receive each year continues to grow. For Fall 2013 we received more than 80,000 applications from prospective freshmen and transfer students, a new CSULB record. More than 56,000 applications came from first-time freshmen.

One of the nation's "Best Value" public colleges and universities by The Princeton Review.
Among the top 100 best values in public colleges by Kiplinger's Personal Finance.
Among the most efficient universities and No. 2 on the list of most efficient regional universities in the West by U.S.News & World Report.
Seventh "most secure" university/college in the nation by Security Magazine.
A "Military Friendly School" for the third consecutive year by Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life.
We made Diverse Issues in Higher Education's annual list of Top 100 Degree Producers:
We ranked 13th nationally in conferring bachelor's degrees in all disciplines to minority students.
11th in conferring bachelor's degrees to Hispanic students and 10th in conferring graduate degrees to Hispanics.
13th in conferring bachelor's degrees to American Indians, and
14th in conferring bachelor's degrees to Asian-Americans.
We were No. 1 in awarding undergraduate degrees to minority students in English language and literature, and family and consumer sciences.
We were 2nd in awarding master's degrees in mathematics and statistics to minorities and we made the magazine's list of Top Degree Producers in the following STEM fields:
