Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering  (Computational Chemical Engineering)

Salary Range

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Degree at the time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2018.
  • Specialization in the area of Computational Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Potential for effective teaching at the college level.
  • Record of or demonstrated potential for successful research, scholarly and creative activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population.


Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level.
  • Experience in teaching courses that heavily involve computations using modern engineering tools.
  • Demonstrated ability and clear plans for the development of research programs and curriculum in the areas of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mass transfer, and chemical process design and optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise student projects, develop courses and academic programs, update curriculum, supervise students’ theses, and actively participate in academic governance.



  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses that heavily involve modern computational tools, as well as undergraduate core and elective courses in chemical engineering, especially those related to thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, process design and optimization.
  • Develop new courses and laboratories; update existing courses; supervise student projects and thesis; write grant proposals and seek research funding; conduct independent and collaborative research leading to publication and external funding.
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community.

  • A Student Success Statement about your teaching or other experiences, successes, and challenges in working with a diverse student population (approximately one page, single-spaced)
  • Letter of application addressing the minimum and desired/preferred qualifications
  • CV (including current email address)
  • Three to five current references or letters of recommendation
  • Copy of transcript from institution awarding highest degree
  • A research statement describing your research accomplishments and plans
  • A teaching statement describing your teaching philosophy and experiences
  • Finalists will also be required to submit a signed SC-1 form, three current letters of recommendation, and an official transcript.

A background check (including a criminal records check and telephone reference check with most recent employer) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
