Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration or a related field (e.g., Public Policy, Curriculum and Instruction, etc.).
  • Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2018.
  • An excellent record of teaching or demonstrated potential for teaching excellence at the college level appropriate to the teaching assignment.
  • A strong record or potential to develop a strong record of scholarly productivity in educational administration and leadership.
  • Practical experience as an educator in PK-12 schools and/or districts.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population.


Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Content specialization in one or more of the following areas: instructional leadership, curriculum development, fiscal and human resources, organizational leadership in urban schools, supervision and evaluation, and education law.
  • Demonstrated experience in educational leadership positions at the Assistant Principalship level or higher.
  • Demonstrated experience in dissertation and thesis advising.
  • Active involvement in professional associations.
  • Demonstrated experience with leading academic programs.
  • Holds the California Clear or Tier II Administrative Credential.



  • Teach a wide range of courses in educational administration and educational leadership.
  • Maintain an active scholarly agenda in educational administration and educational leadership.
  • Actively engage in service activities including program coordination, student advising at the master’s and doctoral level, and faculty governance.
  • Chair and serve on master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation committees.

  • A Student Success Statement about your teaching or other experiences, successes, and challenges in working with a diverse student population (approximately one page, single-spaced)
  • Letter of application addressing the minimum and desired/preferred qualifications
  • CV (including current email address)
  • Names and contact information for three references
  • Copy of transcript from institution awarding highest degree
  • A recent writing sample, preferably reporting on empirical research.
  • Finalists will also be required to submit a signed SC-1 form, three current letters of recommendation, and an official transcript


A background check (including a criminal records check and telephone reference check with most recent employer) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
