Senior Assistant or Associate Librarian for Student Services (12-Month)

Salary Range

Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • MLIS or equivalent from an American Library Association-accredited program. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the master’s degree by July 1, 2017.
  • Working experience in programs such as Upward Bound, Educational Opportunity Program, American Language Institute, and/or other programs assisting at-risk students, first-generation students, international students, or similar programs.
  • Working experience as a librarian, library intern, or information professional.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness at teaching information literacy skills and concepts in a library setting.

  • Demonstrated potential to fulfill the research activities and service commitments required for a tenure-track position in the Library.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness at providing research assistance in a library setting.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and patrons, e.g. faculty, staff, and students.

  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population.


Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, select, and review information resources in relation to curricular and collection needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of innovative or emerging technologies and ability to apply these concepts to library applications.


  • Provide in-person and online reference services at a service-oriented and all-purpose research and information services desk approximately 6 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends. 
  • Provide library instruction, research, orientation, and outreach services and liaison services to the programs of Beach Learning Community (pre-baccalaureate students), Upward Bound, Educational Opportunity Program, American Language Institute, and international students, as well as serve as the main coordinator for transfer students and graduate student programs.
  • Provide consultation services for Beach Learning Community (pre-baccalaureate students), Upward Bound, Educational Opportunity Program, American Language Institute, and international students.
  • Seek out opportunities to establish new campus collaborations and/or additional services as well as new programs in which to provide services to.
  • Serve as the Library’s subject specialist for Library Science as well as the specified programs needs which includes evaluating, selecting, and reviewing information resources in relation to curricular and collection needs.
  • Work closely with library faculty, staff, and other members of the University community as appropriate.
  • Engage in library and university governance and scholarship including research, scholarly and creative activities required for tenure and promotion.

  • Letter of application addressing the minimum and desired/preferred qualifications

  • Three signed current (within the last year) letters of recommendation sent directly from the referees to this email address or to mail address below
  • Copy of transcript from institution awarding highest degree


Finalists will also be required to submit a signed SC-1 form and an official transcript.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
