Full-Time Lecturer - Geography (GIS Lab Manager)

Effective Date

August 19, 2013 (Fall Semester)
January 21, 2014 (Spring Semester)

Salary Range

Commensurate with qualifications and experience

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Geography or closely related field

  • Specialization in GIS, with experience in GIS lab management

  • Experience working in an enterprise GIS environment with multiple user connections

  • Demonstrated potential for effective teaching

  • Experience administering spatial database systems

  • Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. 

 

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Effective college or university teaching experience in GIS or closely related field

  • Expertise in relevant professional/technical fields, and prior experience or familiarity with California State University system

  • Experience managing students and/or staff

  • Experience supporting grant funded research

  • Experience in the setup, management, and design of ArcGIS server, publishing map documents.

 

Duties

  • This position will be approximately 40% teaching and 60% GIS lab management.

  • Teach available introductory undergraduate level courses (3 – 6 units) as needed.

  • The successful candidate will be expected to manage our GIS/Remote sensing teaching and research labs. This includes but not limited to the following: supervise student lab-technicians who are hired to assist undergraduate and graduate students; interact with students to address student lab and GIS-related issues; oversee computer software and hardware configuration, work closely with technical groups regarding lab and server configurations, and work with faculty to design setup; manage and maintain the database systems architecture to serve faculty and student needs, and access to a variety of geospatial datasets.

  • Conduct special projects for the Chair of Geography and Director of the Masters in Geographic Information Science (MSGISci).
