GRADUATE OR OTHER POST-BACCALAUREATE CREDIT EARNED AS A SENIOR

This policy statement supersedes 92-08 and in part 71-07.

This revised policy was recommended by the Academic Senate on November 18, 2010
and approved by the president on December 2, 2010.

Post-baccalaureate credit usually may not be earned in advance of the baccalaureate degree. However, based upon faculty recommendation, academic performance (in general a grade-point average of 3.0 (B) in the major), and promise of academic achievement in post-graduate study, seniors may be granted approval to earn a maximum of 12 units of course work taken at this university toward their prospective graduate or additional baccalaureate degree, credential, or graduate certificate. The course work must be in addition to that required for the undergraduate major.

For a graduate degree or certificate the coursework must be in the 400 and 500 levels designated as acceptable for graduate credit. The undergraduate student must have approval to earn graduate credit in the senior year from the departmental graduate advisor and the department chair prior to enrollment.

In those areas in which post-baccalaureate credit is for a credential only, the petition must be submitted to the College of Education.

For a second-baccalaureate the undergraduate student must have approval of the undergraduate advisor and chair of the department offering the second baccalaureate degree program prior to enrollment in that terminal semester.

Petitions submitted after completion of course(s) will not be approved.
