Master of Arts in Dance
Option in Dance Education (code 5-5231)
Obsolete Policy
This program was recommended by the Academic Senate
on May 16, 1996,
approved by the President on June 14, 1996 and
approved by the Chancellor's office on March 13, 1997.
The Master of Arts Degree in Dance with an option in Dance Education,
is designed for experienced dance faculty in high schools and community
colleges.
Prerequisites
1. A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with a degree
in dance or a related field.
2. A minimum of 2.8 GPA in the last 60 semester units of the BA
or BFA.
3. Minimum of three years full-time experience teaching dance in
a high school or minimum of three years part or full-time experience
teaching dance in a community college.
Retention Criteria
1. Maintain a GPA of 3.0 in all graduate work completed at CSULB.
2. Continue satisfactory progress toward the degree objective.
Advancement to Candidacy
1. Satisfy the general university requirements for advancement
to candidacy and departmental criteria for admission.
2. Satisfactory completion of the CSULB Writing Proficiency Examination.
3. Maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA in all work undertaken for the
graduate program.
4. Completion of a minimum of six units of graduate work.
5. Removal of any incompletes.
6. Filing of the student's graduate program form for the Master
of Arts in Dance Education, signed by the student's graduate committee
and approved by the Associate Dean for graduate accountabiity.
Requirements
A minimum of 30 units with 24 units in DANC 510A, 512A, 520A,
525, 590, 591A, 597, 605; 6 units in DANC 699.
