SUBJECT: NEW MINORS IN ENGLISH: TEACHING EMPHASIS, SPECIAL OPTION, LITERATURE, LANGUAGE AND COMPOSITION, AND CREATIVE WRITING

The following policy statement, recommended by the Academic Senate at its meeting of May 19, 1977, approved by the President on June 7, 1977, and approved by the Chancellor on August 1, 1977, is as follows:

The minor in Creative Writing requires a minimum of 21 units.

(A) English 184, 205 or 206, 385 or 386, 405 or 406 

(B) English electives to total 8 units from: English 405, 406, 407, 459, 467A-B, 474, 475, 476, 477A-B, 489, 499. (Note: 405 and 406 may be repeated for credit to a maximum of 6 units by consent of instructor).

The minor in Teaching Emphasis requires a minimum of 21 units.

(A) English 250A-B, 470A-B (eight units). 

(B) English 310 or 497, 320 or 325, 482 

(C) 3 units elective (317 not accepted). 

The minor in Special Option requires a minimum of 21 units

The minor in the special option requires a minimum of 21 units selected in consultation with an advisor. English 184 is required.

Students interested in the multi-subjects credential should take English 481, while students interested in the single-subject credential should take English 482.

The minor in Literature requires a minimum of 21 units and must include:

(A) English 184

(B) English 250A-B, 370A-B (eight units)

(C) English electives to a total of 9 units from English 363, 385, 386, 390, 398 and/or any courses from the 450, 460, or 470 series

The minor in Language and Composition requires a minimum of 20 units and must include:

(A) English 310, 325, 420,421, 428, and 497

(B) English 423 or 426 highly recommended
