Message from the Chair

Daniel O'Connor

The Academic Senate at California State University, Long Beach plays an important role in representing faculty, staff, and students in the workings of shared governance at our institution. Academic senators are elected by their respective colleges and constituencies to serve the interests of the entire campus community. The Senate plays a policy-making and advocacy role on our campus. In fact, it is the place on campus where individuals from all constituencies come together to discuss and debate the past, present, and future of the institution.

Our Senate takes pride in producing clear campus policies and works to ensure compliance with those policies. We are equally committed to representing the interests of all of our constituencies to the broader community and to participating in the consultative processes that strengthen decision-making on our campus.

I approach my responsibilities as chair of the Academic Senate with the utmost commitment to civility and collegiality, two hallmark characteristics of CSULB.

On behalf of the entire Executive Committee of the Academic Senate, I invite faculty, staff, and students to explore our website and to bring issues of concern about the institution to my attention. I can be reached at the Senate Office (AS-123/562-985-4149) and also via email:Daniel.O'
