The ESL/Language & Writing Tutoring program consists of two programs:
Individual Tutoring for students interested in improving their English speaking, grammar, reading, and writing skills;
Conversation Lab, where students can drop-in and talk with a conversation volunteer to improve their pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency/confidence, and familiarity with American idioms and culture.
Don't miss the GPE Workshops held at the LAC and the WRL.
The LAC and the Writer's Resource Lab are teaming up to bring you
4 workshops to help you pass the GWAR Placement Exam.
Individual Tutoring (free for CSULB-enrolled students!)*
If you would like to work with a tutor for several weeks or even the entire semester, you can! You can arrange to meet with the same tutor every week at the same time; the tutor can work with you on any aspect of writing, including vocabulary, essay structure, grammar, and proofreading strategies that you need for college-level writing. You can also request a tutor to help you as you prepare for the GPE or work on passing a GWAR course. Complete this form to request a tutor for this semester, and we will contact you to make arrangements after the semester has begun.
Tutoring hours are available Mon-Thurs 9am-7pm and Fri 9am-12n. Tutors begin working the third week of classes. For more information, call the LAC at 562.985.5350 or visit us in HC-104.
*If you are not a CSULB-enrolled student but still would like to receive tutoring, email us to learn about the fee structure.
Conversation Lab (free for CSULB-enrolled students!)*
The Conversation Lab is a great place to practice your English with a native speaker. It is a relaxed, informal, safe place for you to ask questions and practice speaking English. Our friendly volunteers will help you with pronunciation and grammar; talk about virtually any topic with you; and explain American idioms, slang, and culture. The Conversation Lab is especially useful for international students and English learners.
The Conversation Lab is open Mon-Thurs 10am-5pm during Fall and Spring semesters and begins on the third week of classes. Please see our weekly volunteer schedule. No appointments are needed! For more information, call the LAC at 562.985.5350 or visit us in HC-104.
*If you are not a CSULB-enrolled student but still would like to visit the Conversation Lab, email us to learn about the fee structure.
