New Course Prefix Process


A new course prefix requires approval from the Vice Provost of Academic Programs. Requests should come early in the cycle and provide justification of the need for a new prefix, the requested designation, and a list of courses that will be changed to this prefix or created for this prefix during the curriculum cycle.

Originator Notifies Curriculum Office (catalog@csulb.edu) of desired new prefix (four characters, no spaces or slashes).

 Notifies

Curriculum Office prepares and delivers form. Originator obtain signatures/approvals from their college.

 Approved

New Course Prefix is entered into the
Curriculum Certification Process

 November - December

 Certified

New Course Prefix is published in the following Fall's Catalog

 March

Note: There must be a single specific department under which all courses bearing the designation will be administered. If appropriate, the department can be a college office.
