Blog (instructions will be available soon)
The Blog tool is a way to share information on topics that interest you. You can post and respond to questions, engage in discussions, and share opinions and comments with other users. Blog entries can be public for all BeachBoard users to read or private for the authors' eyes only.
The Classlist displays the class roster for the course. You may use the Classlist to send emails to your instructor or classmates. You can also use the Classlist to access group information, view profile pictures and information, and visit user blogs.
Content is where you will find the course materials for your course. For example, you will be able to access your course syllabus, lecture notes, and any additional resources the instructor has chosen to post.
The Discussions tool is a collaboration area where you can post, read, and reply to messages on different topics, share thoughts about course materials, ask questions, share files, or work with your peers on assignments and homework.
The Dropbox allows you to submit assignments through Dropbox folders. Instructors can view submitted files and provide grades and feedback all from within the Dropbox area. If the instructor has connected the Dropbox folder to Turnitin, the plagiarism detector, and allowed you to see the results, the Dropbox is where you will be able to access this information.
Emails in BeachBoard are sent through the Classlist. Emails sent through D2L will go to the user's external preferred email account (as set in MyCSULB).
ePortfolio (no longer available in BeachBoard starting Fall 2014)
ePortfolio is a personal portfolio tool for storing, organizing, reflecting on, and sharing items that represent your learning among all courses. You may include documents, graphics, audio files, videos, presentations, course work, etc. that demonstrate your improvement or mastery in a certain area. Such items can then be organized, displayed, and shared through Presentations.
Grades is where you will see your grades on quizzes, assignments, discussion participation, and/or anything that your instructor has added and decided to display. Only you and your instructor can view your grades—other students cannot.
Create and record lecture videos to turn in to your instructors (if enabled for your course). Record your audio, computer screen, PowerPoint, and/or webcam to create videos ahead of time that can be automatically viewed by your instructor.
Logging in to BeachBoard requires your campus ID and BeachID password. Use the System Check to ensure your computer has the proper settings to support BeachBoard.
The BeachBoard mobile website allows you to view News and Content items, read and post Discussion messages, and check Grades for your courses, all on your mobile device. To submit to the Dropbox, review feedback, email classmates, take quizzes, and access Online Rooms, please access BeachBoard on a desktop or laptop computer.
The News tool enables the instructor to communicate announcements, updates, changes, etc. to users as soon as they enter BeachBoard and each course/organization. News items appear in two places: combined from all courses/organizations into the News widget in the middle of the My Home page, and in the News widget in the middle of each course/organization's Course Home page. You can also receive email notifications about new items and updates to old items.
Through Notifications you can set up to receive emails and/or SMS (text) messages about activity in your BeachBoard courses. You can be notified about such things as recent News posts, upcoming Dropbox folder end (due) dates, unread Discussion board posts, and/or a daily summary of activity.
Online rooms is where instructors can create a virtual classroom for presentations and live discussions between participants in different locations. These presentations can be recorded and archived for later viewings. It is powered by Collaborate and requires the latest Java plug-in on your computer.
My Preferences, accessed through a link in the My Settings widget on the My Home page, allows you to change your personal settings, including font and text size, to customize the system's display.
Profile, accessed through a link in the My Settings widget on the My Home page, allows you to upload a photo and fill out profile information about yourself. The picture will display next to your name in the Classlist and your posts in the Discussion Board, and classmates and instructors can view the profile information by clicking on your picture in these areas.
Quizzes is where you will find any quizzes and tests your instructor has set up for the course. This is also where you will be able to view quiz and test results, if your instructor has allowed you to view them.
