What is Qualtrics?

Qualtrics is a web-based survey tool for conducting survey research, evaluations and other data collection activities. Download the data collected for analysis in SPSS, SAS, Minitab or other statistical software products.

Qualtrics Support provides an entire library of online training and troubleshooting tools.  The 'Beginning to Build' training-track is recommended for all new Qualtrics users.  

Logging in and Using Qualtrics

CSULB students, staff and faculty can login to Qualtrics at with their BeachID and password. Make requests for additional Qualtrics capabilities and support at CSULB Qualtrics Requests.

Users are responsible for managing project surveys and backing up any survey data collected through this application.

Student Use 

Student accounts have the following features:

  • One active survey is allowed at any given time
  • Three total surveys are allowed on the account (survey can be deleted and replaced)
  • Multiple drafts are allowed/encouraged
  • 300 responses across all surveys (deleting responses does not decrease this count)
  • 300 outgoing emails allowed (total sent across all surveys)
  • Collaborate with fellow students and faculty

Software Depot and Installation Policy

California State University, Long Beach has a Qualtrics license allowing faculty, staff and students to use Qualtrics for university-related business. Using Qualtrics for personal, commercial or other non-academic endeavors is not allowed.

Your use of Qualtrics is bound by Qualtrics' Acceptable Use Statement.


Qualtrics Standards of Use

Compliance with the CSULB Institutional Review Board's policies regarding data collection and the use of email is required.

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs' Policies and Executive Orders are available for review. The Institutional Review Board's Manual is also available.

Do not collect personally identifiable information, including health information, social security number, driver licenses, or credit card numbers. 

Accessibility and Support


While Qualtrics can produce accessible surveys for people using assistive technologies, not every question is accessible to screen-reading programs. The Qualtrics support page on accessibility describes how to check your survey for accessibility compliance and lists the question types that work well with assistive technologies
